This ritual is derived from the myth of Momotaro slaying the demon (Prince Kibitsuhiko defeating Ura), which has been preserved at this shrine. It is a purification ritual in which divine arrows are shot in four directions (to the east, west, south, and north) to prevent the fierce kami (gods or deities) from entering. Shichi-Go-San is an event that celebrates the growth of children who are seven, five, and three years old. It is said that the festival started on November 15, 1681, to pray for the health of Tokugawa Tokumatsu, the lord of Tatebayashi Castle. We give thanks for the children's growth and pray for divine protection. |
